Job Description
TorchLight seeks a skilled Copy Editor (Long-term contract) to proof and edit a variety of written digital content for our non-profit client in the DC-area. The ideal candidate will partner with both internal and external teams on content production and publication, ensuring format and quality of materials are consistent with established publishing policies.
Location:
Ideally, qualified applicants are located in the DMV or DC metropolitan area.
U.S. citizenship or a permanent residency card in the U.S. is required to be an eligible candidate for this opportunity.
Employment:
This is a long-term contract, full-time 40 hours per week. A flexible work schedule with work-from-home options is available.
Rate/Salary Range:
$40 to $50 per hour
Note: Rates and salary ranges are commensurate with experience, certifications, industry knowledge, and technical skills and abilities.
Role Responsibilities:

Collaborate with team members to review and edit relevant content for digital, print and other platforms, ensuring consistency in voice, tone, and style

Enter content into content/publishing management systems, monitor workflow, and collaborate with production staff to ensure the accuracy and quality of published content

Identify and share success stories and contribute ideas and content for storytelling plans

Recommend process improvements related to content development, editing, and delivery of publications/written materials
Skills and Experience:

5+ years of journalism or related publishing experience preferred

Proven strong editing skills and a track record managing high-quality journalism in multiple formats/platforms, including digital

Knowledge of current publishing best practices in print and online formats

Experience assigning and editing content from external and internal contributors; cultivating a network of qualified contributors
