Job Description
TorchLight Hire is seeking a seasoned VP of Governance to provide expert support to our client’s board of directors and other governing bodies, aiding them in accomplishing their governance duties and responsibilities. The chosen candidate will be proactive in developing ideas and systems that support board engagement and accomplishment of their strategic plan.
This leader will head the governance department and oversee the management and day-to-day operations of various governance programs.
Location:
Ideal candidates are in the DMV or DC metropolitan area. This role has flexibility for hybrid office/remote work.
U.S. citizenship or a permanent residency card in the U.S. is required to be an eligible candidate for this opportunity.
Employment:
This is a Direct Hire opportunity, Full-Time, 40 hours per week. Flexible work from home schedule is an option.

Role Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the organization’s CEO to facilitate board focus on strategic issues
- Ensure timely provision of clear and concise materials to the board
- Lead in creating volunteer engagement opportunities that align with the strategic plan
- Develop systems to identify, engage, and develop the leadership skills of members
- Provide guidance and support to various governing entities
- Ensure annual elections are conducted in accordance with applicable policies
- Work with legal counsel to ensure governance policies and practices align with corporate statutes
- Assist with development of a recordkeeping and reference system for critical governance documents
- Manage the department’s annual budget and performance objectives
Skills & Experience:
- Minimum 10+ years combined experience in leadership and governance within non-profit organizations
- Previous experience in managing and collaborating with volunteer leaders
- Strong financial acumen and budget management skills
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities and excellent communication and presentation skills
- Extensive knowledge of association management principles and governance
