June Contractor of the Month: Kelley Rosati

Congratulations to Kelley Rosati for her selection as TorchLight’s June Contractor of the Month! Read on to learn more about Kelley – where she grew up, her advice to marketing professionals and what she likes most about the TorchLight team!

Where did you grow up and where did you go to college? What did you study?

I grew up in Pittsgrove, New Jersey, and went to Virginia Tech to study marketing.

What did (or do!) you want to be when you grow up? How did you get into marketing and communications?

I originally wanted to get into athletic training. I love sports and played them throughout my childhood. In between playing sports in high school, I also worked with our athletic trainer learning how to prevent and treat different sports injuries. I can still tape a shin splint or ankle if anyone is in need 😊.

I’ve always had an interest in business and once I realized athletic training wasn’t the right path for me, I examined other options. Marketing allows me to be both creative and strategic. That combination is what intrigued me and something I still enjoy to this day.

What do you like to do for fun?

For fun, I enjoy playing tennis, working out and practicing calligraphy. Like most, I love to travel and am looking forward to getting back to it this year. I also have a dog named Finley that I am admittedly obsessed with.

Favorite food? Drink?

That’s a tough one, but I’d probably have to say pizza and an Old Fashioned. Probably not a good combo together, though.

One bucket list destination…

So many to choose but I’ve always wanted to stay in an overwater villa in the Maldives.

What’s the best advice a manager has ever given you?

Don’t be afraid to fail. I think this is true for many professions, but with marketing specifically,  testing and failing allows you to learn and ultimately become more strategic.

What advice would you give to someone just starting out in their career?

I think many people just starting in their careers are hesitant to voice their opinion but their perspectives can lead to fresh new ideas. Also, don’t be afraid to speak up and take PTO. I’m a big proponent of using your time off. Most people need and deserve a reset and shouldn’t feel guilty for taking time away from the office.

What work accomplishment are you most proud of?

I was part of the initial team that launched a large business unit at a telecommunications company. It was so rewarding to be one of the few people there at the beginning phases of the project to then see it launch and become one of the biggest products at the company. I am particularly proud of that launch knowing what went into it and where it is now.

What has been the biggest plus about working from home during the pandemic? Challenge?

I worked remote prior to the pandemic so I was used to working from home but it’s been a plus having everyone else virtual. We’ve had Zoom get-togethers and puppy meet-and-greets which has been an unexpected benefit.

I used to travel to the office about once a month so it’s challenging not getting to do that and see colleagues face to face.

Finally, what do you like about working for TorchLight?

The people, from both a leadership and colleague perspective. Leadership has been transparent and available when needed and my colleagues are all smart, hardworking individuals that I enjoy working with.

Congratulations again to our June Contractor of the Month, Kelley Rosati. Keep up the good work! Check out our last Contractor of the Month, Marie Huddle.
