Meet the Team: Jasmine Armwood

TorchLight is happy to introduce the latest addition to our team: Jasmine Armwood! A recruiting specialist, Jasmine joined us earlier in 2021 and has been a great addition to our company. Read on to learn more about Jasmine.

Where are you from?

I am from Salisbury, MD. I moved to the Western shore of MD in 2007.

What did you study and how did you get into the recruiting space?

I was originally a training director and assistant manager at a small Chick-fil-A and then led the grand opening of a new location. I oversaw all staffing efforts for the new store which ultimately launched my recruiting career.

What are some of your previous jobs?

I worked for Best Buy for three years in several different roles. I continued to receive promotions and held roles like Team Leader, Operations Supervisor and HR Coordinator for retail locations.

Favorite recruiting story?

At Best Buy, I was required to outsource for a Geek Squad position that required a certain skill set. During that time, I hosted a job fair and found multiple candidates myself who were a fit for our open positions.

What’s your dream travel destination and why?

I would like to visit the Maldives as I truly enjoy visiting islands—and there are over 1,100 islands in the country.

What’s your favorite thing to do in DC during your free time?

Prior to COVID, I enjoyed going to DC to experience new restaurants and try a variety of cuisines. Overall, trying new foods is a favorite hobby of mine!

What is the best advice you can give to candidates searching for jobs during COVID?

In current times, I feel it is important to be consistent in your job search and to establish a follow-up routine after you apply for a job. At the same time, it is important to maintain balance so you do not overwhelm yourself or become discouraged if you don’t hear back from hiring managers in a timely manner.

In the current job market, what do you think is the top thing that job candidates are looking for in an employer?

I believe candidates are currently seeking stability after the uncertainty of the COVID job market. Whether they apply for a short-term contract or permanent role, I feel that candidates are looking for a place to call home.

Finally, what do you like most about your job at TorchLight?

I enjoy the close-knit TorchLight environment and how everyone works together to not only support business needs but each other personally as well.
