Meet our VP of Business Development & Account Management, Stephanie Ranno!
Meet TorchLight’s VP of Business Development & Account Management, Stephanie Ranno! Get to know more about Stephanie – her first few jobs, where she’s from, and what she loves most about working remotely!
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland.
What did you study and how did you get into the recruiting space?
I was a History Major/Theater Minor with a special concentration on Medieval History and studied at University of Lynchburg (formerly Lynchburg College). I also spent a semester at the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies – Keble College, Oxford University- one of the best learning experiences.
As is often the case, not many people plan to enter recruiting or sales as a career. In late 2004, I met the owners of a staffing and recruiting firm that was based in Boston. They were looking to open an office in Baltimore. I offered to help them locate a site for their new office. After that, they offered me the job of opening the office and helping grow their business.
What are some of your previous jobs?
An American Red Cross Certified Babysitter was my first ever paying gig!
High school summers were spent as a Snowball Stand Operator. If you’re from Maryland, you know how important the Snowball is to summer—Egg Custard or Skylight all the way!
I also worked every summer in college as a Lab Technician growing algae for a company called Martek.
My first job out of college was at Port Discovery, The Children’s Museum in Baltimore – where I then moved into the development department and spent the first 5 years of my career in non-profit fundraising.
What’s your dream travel destination and why?
I have so many places I’d like to visit, but if I had to choose my next adventure, I would like to visit Greece with my husband. We’re both history nerds and love the beach – so I know we’d have a fantastic time exploring and relaxing.
What’s your favorite thing to do during your free time?
I love exercising, reading, listening to audiobooks, reading to my kiddos, going to concerts or live theater with my husband, playing cards and board games with my family, and hiking and camping.
What’s the best part of working remotely?
The best part of working remotely is being able to have the flexibility to be present for my family – without sacrificing meaningful work.
Finally, what do you like most about your job at TorchLight?
What I like most about my work at TorchLight is the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives. Recruiting is also a great place to learn something new – I love that about this field! Top that off with a team and leadership that really cares and supports you in your personal passions – and I feel grateful every day for my work at TorchLight.
