TorchLight Hire is seeking a Director of External Communications to lead investor, capital partner, and media-facing communications for our DC-based client—a prominent, fast-growing corporate organization. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic communications leader who wants to build a high-visibility function from the ground up and shape how a growing organization is perceived by the audiences that matter most to its expansion.
This is both a strategic and hands-on role. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in financial and investor communications, a strong media relations network, and the executive presence to advise senior leadership on external positioning — ideally with a background touching real estate development, commercial real estate, or investor communications.
Location Washington, D.C. metro area preferred (Hybrid — in-office and remote flexibility; open to strong candidates outside the DC metro area)

Role Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive external communications strategy that shapes market perception and supports the organization’s growth
- Architect and lead corporate narratives that position the organization as a category leader
- Build and manage relationships with top-tier journalists, industry analysts, and financial press
- Partner with finance and executive leadership on investor and financial communications tied to major announcements and corporate milestones
- Lead crisis communications planning, issues management, and reputation protection
- Build the external visibility and thought leadership platform of senior executives
- Manage relationships, performance, and budget for outside communications/PR agency partners
- Establish and report on communications metrics aligned with business objectives
Skills and Experience
- 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, financial/investor communications, or public relations
- Demonstrated experience communicating financial performance, business strategy, and growth initiatives to investor audiences
- Background in real estate development, commercial real estate, or real estate investment communications a plus
- Strong financial acumen and comfort translating complex concepts for varied audiences
- Executive presence and experience advising senior leadership on external positioning
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or related field
