Exciting DC-based membership organization seeks creative Director of Communications with global experience
TorchLight Hire is seeking a Director of Communications to join a membership organization headquartered in Washington, DC. This position will lead the organization’s internal and external communications and will manage a global team and agency vendors. Qualified candidates will have strong management experience and a background in creating strategic communications/PR/media relations strategies in a global environment.
Location:
This organization is headquartered in Washington, DC but remote candidates will be considered. U.S. citizenship or a permanent residency card in the U.S. is required to be an eligible candidate for this opportunity.
Employment:
Full-time, Direct Hire role, 40 hours per week with flexible work-from-home (WFH) options
Role responsibilities:
- Responsible for strategy and implementation of internal and external communications plans (globally)
- Lead communications planning for organization’s programs, services, products, and major conferences
- Proactively and reactively manage media relations
- Work with internal content strategy team to develop messaging in support of organization’s content planning
- Manage global team and outside agencies
- Responsible for annual budget management and planning
- Create and track KPI’s for all campaigns
- Support communications efforts in organization’s global local chapters
- Prepare speeches for the executive team and member leaders
- Develop talking points for media appearances by the executive team and member leaders
- Create a thought leadership program to position leaders and staff as subject matter experts
- Manage crisis communications as needed
Skills and experience:
- 8+ years’ experience in a communications leadership role, preferably from a non-profit, think tank, or other membership/trade association
- Proven track record in creating external and internal communications strategy with ability to share KPI’s and anecdotal success stories
- Strong experience in message development, communications planning, segmentation, and measurement
- Significant experience in managing high-profile communications issues, often in conjunction with senior leadership
- Long history of success in earned, owned, and social media
- Strong agency and project management experience
- Experience in crisis communications
- Experience working in a global capacity
