VA-based performing arts organization seeks Director of Communications to lead strategic initiatives and integrated team
TorchLight Hire is seeking a Director of Communications for a well-known performing arts organization located in Northern Virginia. This role will lead external and internal communications planning and execution alongside an internal team of multidisciplinary professionals. Qualified individuals should have a background or keen interest in the performing arts and 7+ years of experience managing integrated communications strategy, including media relations. Prior management experience is mandatory.
Location:
Qualified applicants must be in the Northern, VA or Washington, D.C. areas. U.S. citizenship or a permanent residency card in the U.S. is required to be an eligible candidate for this opportunity.
Employment:
Full-time, direct hire role, 40-hours per week with flexible work-from-home (WFH) options (currently 1-2 days/week onsite)

Role responsibilities:
- Create and implement annual communications plans to support the organization’s mission, events, and campaigns
- Develop consistent branded storytelling, messaging, and content across multiple digital and traditional communications channels
- Advise and respond to crises as needed
- Manage communications team in the development and distribution of print and electronic collateral
- Develop metrics and analytics to test, measure, and report on campaign success
- Manage media relations by serving as the primary source and spokesperson for the organization
- Direct and oversee all digital communications strategies – including paid and organic social media – to increase organization’s engagement and support
Skills and experience:
- Minimum of 7+ years of strategic integrated communications experience, including 3+ years supervisory experience; background in entertainment and/or performing arts a plus
- Proven track record of developing and implementing comprehensive communications strategies
- Experience working in crisis communications, media relations, and internal communications
- Knowledge of paid and organic social media strategy and implementation
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Demonstrated successful track record as a manager and mentor
- Some flexibility to work evenings and weekends as assigned
